Ecotourism Kenya has awarded Travelife Partner certificates to six Kenyan Tour Operators during the Kenya Association of Tour Operators (KATO) Annual General Meeting (AGM) held on Friday 28th October 2016 at Radisson Blu, Nairobi. The companies have been recognized for finalizing their online profiles showcasing their best practices in sustainable tourism targeting their operations, conservation and community engagement. The sustainability recognition is intended to increase the companies’ competitiveness in the global markets.

The intensive online exercise which took the companies seven months to complete is part of the Kenya Tour Operators Sustainability Program that was initiated by Ecotourism Kenya in partnership with KATO and Travelife for Tour Operators with support from CBI Netherlands. The initiative is a first of its kind in Kenya and indeed in East Africa hence abiding by our vision – to be the leader in the knowledge and practice of sustainable tourism.

Ecotourism Kenya and Travelife have been offering support through the Travelife online sustainability system which includes the use and implementation of the knowledge, methods and tools that were acquired during the training and personal (in-house) coaching. Office visits to the participating companies were also scheduled as part of the support and auditing process by EK.
The six companies will now use the Travelife Partner logo on their marketing materials and will be expected to proceed to the next level – Travelife Certified. |
