ISSUE 09 – SEPTEMBER 2017

Wednesday, 27 September is World Tourism Day and this year the theme is Sustainable Tourism – a Tool for Development. This global event provides a unique opportunity for stakeholders to work together in making tourism a catalyst for positive change by addressing challenges outlined by the United Nations Millennium Development Goals (MDGs) and by highlighting the contribution that the tourism sector is making to achieve these goals.

In South Africa, September is Tourism Month. Under the theme We Do Tourism Sustainably, South African Tourism and the National Department of Tourism aims to drive awareness on the importance of domestic tourism to the economy. Our features on African Airports, African Arrivals, and the African Hotel Valuation Index all stress the importance of domestic tourism to local economies.

In keeping with both celebratory themes, this edition continues our year-long series on ‘Africa’s Sustainable Tourism Gems.’ To discover how your eco-friendly destination, hotel, lodge or attraction can be featured in this series, click here.

As usual, just click on the top image to read the magazine online or click on the images below to read each story. If you prefer to read a hard copy of the magazine, Peecho can print a copy in the Netherlands and courier it to your door.

Happy Tourism Month!
