Good news for passengers! Baggage will be tracked like parcels as of June 2018 thanks to IATA Resolution 753. But how do IATA’s new requirements impact airlines, airports and baggage handlers?
Every new industry mandate poses challenges to implement, and RP753 is no exception. More tracking means more processes and more baggage messages exchanged between airport systems and airlines, for which airlines pay. Jointly, airlines, airports and baggage handlers have to unify to drive change together.
Common capabilities is the way forward
Amadeus is one step ahead in baggage management with a common industry approach to collecting, storing and sharing the tracking information of baggage for airports, airlines and ground handlers called Amadeus BRS.
Amadeus BRS was developed with a “single data source” concept in mind, where all of our products and services are tightly integrated to share data rather than pushing or pulling it with costly Teletype messages. TTY messaging costs are no longer applicable between the users of Amadeus BRS and our airline products. Check-in agents, gate agents, baggage agents and ramp agents can have the same view and get benefits of a “real-time” data sharing set of applications. |
