Travel Advisories are coming down thick and fast upon Ebola case in Uganda’s capital Kampala

Following an already challenged regional situation vis a vis the Eastern Congo war and takeover of the regional capital Goma and its international airport by M23 rebels – which immediately led to updated travel advisories from key tourist source countries – has a confirmed Ebola case in the Ugandan capital of Kampala added to the challenges in the region.

A health worker from Uganda’s main national hospital at Mulago was, following his passing, identified as the victim of Ebola and his initially 44 contact persons are being sought for testing which includes 30 other health workers.

Notably did reports emerge that the victim has also travelled to Eastern Uganda, potentially widening the list of persons he has been in close contact with.  A link to a local news reports from Kampala is shown below for added information:

 

 

The Ugandan Ministry of Health has gone into overdrive to put into place containment measures but the search for known and potential contact persons poses a veritable challenge to them.

In neighbouring Tanzania have Marburg cases emerged, not long after Rwanda too had a confirmed Marburg outbreak, giving the regional health authorities and governments added challenges, over and above trying to contain the Eastern Congo developments which impact strongly on the global perception of the region’s saftey and security.
