(Posted 14th January 2015)

An extensive tropical cyclone, Bansi, has caused widespread disruptions of air traffic on the island of Mauritius but also other neighbouring islands. Air Mauritius has issued several news updates during the day to keep passengers informed on flight cancellations which have affected mostly inbound flights but also all flights to the island of Rodrigues. Specific details about operational changes and flight cancellations can be accessed via the Air Mauritius website http://www.airmauritius.com/flightupdates.htm

South African Airways too has announced cancellations and rescheduling of several of their flights to Mauritius and scheduled air traffic will return to normal only when the worst of the storm has passed and safe operations are again assured.

In neighbouring Reunion has home airline Air Austral also provided information for passengers on inbound and outbound flights on their website http://www.air-austral.com/en/prepare-your-flight/flight-information/flight-update.html about any delays or changes in departures and arrivals, at the main airport Roland Garros in St. Denis and the island’s second airport Saint Pierre – Pierrefonds.

Domestic flights in Madagascar and regional / international flights in and out of Madagascar may also be affected and passengers destined for this and other Indian Ocean islands are advised to check with their respective airlines about any delays or flight cancellations.
