TO LEAVE OR NOT TO LEAVE …

News broke late this afternoon that two senior Kenya Airways executives, the Director Corporate Quality, Safety, Security and Environment Mr. Alex Avedi and the Director Flight Operations Capt. Paul Mwangi, took a voluntary leave, ostensibly to facilitate further talks with what must be the most militant union in Kenya, KALPA, the Kenya Airline Pilots Association.
Earlier today, after a wildcat strike yesterday, did flight operations return to normal and while the strike action broke a court order did KALPA act as it was the most natural thing on earth to ignore it, clearly thinking that as their ‘office‘ is in the skies they too are above the earthly law.
Kenya Airways’ CEO also confirmed that the Director for Human Resources, Mr. Alban Mwendar, has tendered his resignation a few weeks ago but was asked by the Board of Directors to stay on until the ongoing staff rationalisation exercise had been concluded.
The Kenyan government, together with KLM both major shareholders, have also reaffirmed that the current ‘Operation Pride‘ has been fully sanctioned by government and the Board of Directors and that the management of the company was regularly briefing government organs on progress made.
It was also clearly suggested that KALPA’s action borders on subversion and economic sabotage.
