HEMINGWAYS WATAMU CONFIRMS DECEMBER 01ST REOPENING DATE
(Posted 17th November 2015)
One of Kenya’s best known big game fishing resorts at the coast, Hemingways Watamu, will reopen on schedule on the 01st of December, after completing part one of a two part major refurbishment, modernization and rebuilding exercise.
The resort closed in April not long after hosting the season ending fishing tournament and Melinda Rees during a meeting earlier today confirmed that major work has been carried out during the last 7 ½ months.
The rooms in both North and South wing received the attention of the housekeeping and technical team but most of the project was carried out in the back of house, where entirely new plumbing and piping was installed, the kitchen modernized and other tech areas brought in line with the latest technologies now on the market.
It is planned that in 2016 a similar closure will take place to allow for the conversion of the so called South wing into apartments, now that all the various specs have been decided for part two of the projects, can be costed and tendered so that work can commence literally on the closing day after Easter next year.
Hemingways, formerly known as the Seafarers Hotel, is today part of the Hemingways Collection which includes the Ol Seki Hemingways Safari Camp in the Masai Mara and the Hemingways Hotel in Nairobi’s Karen suburb.
Hemingways Mombasa, with its own fishing boats, has in the past regularly been named as one of the great fishing resorts for big game fish, although in recent years the practice of ‘tag and release’ has been adopted by many resorts, fishing companies and fisherman to keep numbers of the bill fish up at sustainable levels.
