U-Turn by Tanzanian government over COVID19 but no adjustment of reported figures, yet

TANZANIA MAKES AN ASTONISHING U-TURN OVER COVID19 AFTER DENYING ITS EXISTENCE FOR THE PAST 10 MONTHS

(Posted 28th February 2021)

After halting COVID19 case numbers in April of last year, claiming that the country had no problem with the disease and that it was not prevalent in Tanzania – claims made across the political spectrum of the ruling CCM party up to the highest office in the land – has Tanzania now made a remarkable turnaround.
Already on the hotspot list of the EU for travel from and to – Germany listed Tanzania as a risk country already in June 2020 – will the belated admission by the regime further turn attention to the failures of the past amid growing demands to finally publish actual case and death numbers.

The need for a complete change of mindset however became apparent when at the funeral of a former Head of Tanzania’s Central Bank President Magufuli claimed to have defeated the disease last year and would do so again, clearly not paying attention to the growing number of high profile victims of the disease such as the Vice President of Zanzibar.

Magufuli ranks among COVID19 deniers such as former US President Trump and Brazilian President Bolsonaro. Both countries suffered massive case numbers and deaths and the world health community will be watching Tanzania with keen interest to see when the country’s regime will finally own up and admit what has been concealed over the past 10 months.

The count stopped at 509 on orders from above, while at the same time dozens upon dozens of Tanzania truck drivers were stopped from proceeding to Uganda, Rwanda and Kenya after being tested positive for the virus at the border posts, belying utterances that the country had no COVID19 problem.
