Uganda Airlines enters into short term wetlease for a B787 with Ethiopian Airlines

In a deal, which has Ato Girma Wake’s fingerprints all over it, has Uganda Airlines entered into a wetlease for a Boeing B787-8, to allow the airline resume some of their long haul flights which had to be cancelled due to both Airbus A339-800Neo’s out of service for maintenance.

A complete crew supplement has reportedly already arrived in Entebbe on board on of the Ethiopian Airlines’ schedule flights, comprising cockpit and cabin crew but also engineering staff.

This arrangement will permit Uganda Airlines to restart their Entebbe to London Gatwick flights while flights to Mumbai apparently remain suspended until at least one of the Airbus A330-800Neo’s returns to service.

Unlike the Uganda Airlines long haul services, which on the Airbus’ fleet offer Business, Premium Economy and Economy class sections, will the Ethiopian Airlines B787-8 only offer Busines and Economy class as the Ethiopian national airline has todate not introduced a premium economy class despite competitive pressures.

Notably has a number of areas since the arrival of Girma Wake as Acting CEO improved, among them communications with passengers / clients, which had all but broken down under the former failed management and no amount of utterances of the company mouthpiece to the contrary could mask the failures – widely reported on social media and national media outlets.

The new WhatsApp number shown below is a sure way to be heard and have issues addressed by Uganda Airlines staff, a development which must be applauded.
