ALMOST THE LAST OF THEIR KIND AS UGANDA AIRLINES TAKES DELIVERY OF TWO MORE CRJ900’S

Uganda Airlines has now completed the formalities for the handover of their last two CRJ900 aircraft, after ordering four last year and taking delivery of two already in service since the airline commenced operations at the end of August this year.
The aircraft programme, formerly manufactured by Bombardier, is now in the hands of Japan’s Mitsubishi Corporation, which, no sooner was the ink dried on the acquisition documents, halted further sales and will end production of this aircraft type when the last pending order has been fulfilled in 2020.
Mitsubishi paid over 500 million US Dollars for the acquisition and assumed a further 200 million US Dollars in Bombardier debt and is now pushing ahead to sell their own Mitsubishi Spacejet.
Uganda Airlines will use the additional two aircraft to expand their route network and up frequencies on select routes before in 2020/2021 taking delivery of two Airbus A338Neo aircraft to then launch long haul operations to Asia and Europe.
The signing of the delivery documents in Montreal was preceded by Uganda paying a further 56 million US Dollars to take ownership of the two aircraft.
Meanwhile has the airline also confirmed that they will launch flights to Bujumbura / Burundi three times a week, effective 30th of September.
