3RD SOUTH SUMMIT TO TAKE PLACE IN UGANDA NEXT YEAR

Uganda, after securing 134 votes at the UN, has received the hosting rights for the 2020 South Summit. The event is expected to bring the highest number of countries ever attending a conference of this kind to Uganda. In addition was it learned that Uganda has also put in a bid to host another global meeting which, in 2021, could bring over the duration of the conference, as many as 20.000 people into the country.
From additional information received is the Ugandan government now very keen to up the hotel capacity in the corridor between Entebbe and Kampala and is working on a new set of incentives for investors similar to what was put into place ahead of the 2007 CHOGM Summit which was held in Kampala and for which hotel capacity more than doubled at the time.
A new convention centre is also planned for Entebbe, clearly raising the profile of facilities which would make Uganda a MICE destination.
Towards that end has the section in the Ministry of Tourism, Wildlife and Antiquities dealing with MICE been transferred to the Uganda Tourism Board where as a separate department the unit is now promoting MICE business at the dedicated global events like IMEX.
