Uganda government internet shutdown causes delays in Airbus delivery

UGANDA AIRLINES DELIVERY OF SECOND AIRBUS A330-800NEO PUSHED INTO FEBRUARY

(Posted 21st January 2021)

The shut down of Uganda’s internet, which caused a multitude of problems for local businesses and international business relations while it lasted, now is apparently also responsible for the delay in having a second Airbus A338Neo delivered.
Initially planned for the 25th of January was the delivery flight pushed to the 02nd of February following a breakdown in communications due to the lack of internet access.
In related complaints by other airlines was it impossible for their passengers to check in online, book or change flights and impacted on airline communications with their home bases, causing numerous problems for travelers.
Passengers trying to get their mandatory COVID19 PCR results could not access them via the internet either causing delays in journeys and test results invalidated / lapsed, causing additional expenses for another test.

Many other businesses depending on their orders via their various Facebook business pages also fell foul of the internet shutdown, causing them substantial losses of revenues, with complaints falling on deaf ears.

The new aircraft, which has reportedly been named Mount Rwenzori – the sistership which was delivered just before Christmas to Entebbe is named Mt. Elgon – keep the tradition of advertising Uganda’s main geographical features and attractions.

Uganda Airlines, originally launched in August 2019, was forced by another government action to halt operations from the end of March until early October last year, when the international airport in Entebbe was closed for several months to flights other than cargo services, evacuation and repatriation flights.
That closure caused the airline to restart operations literally from scratch on the 01st of October but has since resumed flights to its previous network while adding Kinshasa and preparing for the launch of Lusaka and Johannesburg services.

Uganda Airlines also named Dubai as their first long haul destination with the launch date yet to be confirmed.
