UGANDA EMERGES IN NATIONAL GEOGRAPHICS TOP TEN ‘MUST SEE WILDLIFE DESTINATIONS’

Just days ahead of the ongoing World Travel Market in London did Lonely Planet once again lift Uganda, the Pearl of Africa, into their top ranked destinations, alongside the entire East Africa, to the delight of our country’s tourism marketers, giving them another promotional boost.
Now this is followed by National Geographic naming Uganda among their top ten ‘Must see Wildlife destinations’ in the world, adding to the appeal of spending a vacation visiting our acclaimed national parks, among them one named by CNN as Africa’s best, the Kidepo Valley National Park.
Uganda’s ten parks, incidentally the only country with two gorilla national parks, Bwindi and Mgahinga, offer a complete range of attractions, from Mt. Elgon to the Rwenzori Mountains – the latter one of the mystic mountain ranges of old when they were also called the Mountains of the Moon by the ancient Greeks. Between those five named await a further five parks, all with their unique signature experiences, including the Murchisons Falls National Park where the mighty Nile squeezes through a gap just seven metres wide to fall nearly 50 metres, the highest of the falls along the entire length of the Victoria Nile before it becomes first the Albert Nile and then the White Nile.
National Geographic singled out gorilla tracking as among their top ten recommendations and in Africa it is only Madagascar which receives a mention, the other destinations being Mexico, Canada, Hawaii, Alaska and New Mexico in the United States, Scotland, Trinidad and the Falkland Islands.
Visits to Uganda’s gorilla parks are made even easier for potential visitors through the common East African Tourist Visa which covers entry to Kenya and Rwanda too, besides the two low season periods every year when the cost of a gorilla tracking permit falls from the usual 650 US Dollars to a mere 400 US Dollars for tourists from abroad.
