9 TO 6 CURFEW TO REMAIN IN PLACE WITH NO MENTION OF EXCEPTIONS FOR ARRIVING OR DEPARTING PASSENGERS

A long awaited confirmation has been given, that the international airport and borders are to reopen in Uganda, except, as has been widely commented on across social media immediately after his speech, no date was given by the country’s president during his address earlier in the evening.
Tourism stakeholders were swift to welcome the announcement but then began to wonder how people would be able to go to and come from the airport, given that many flights will arrive and then leave again late into the night or the wee hours of the morning.
Added clarification on both issues is therefore required swiftly and hopes are pinned on the earlier mention by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority, that the proposed reopening date will be the 01st of October – which given the omission of a date by the president in his address to the nation now however remains to be seen.
What was welcomed too was the mention that visitors will not have to undergo a mandatory quarantine of 14 days, which on a global scale as been seen as the greatest deterrent to travel and that only #COVID19 free certificates will be required for travelers coming to Uganda, made out not later than 72 hours before arrival in Entebbe or any of the land border points.
Uganda’s case load, as of today, stood at 6.287 cases and the rapid rise of infections in recent days has caused added concern by the tourism fraternity given the increasingly restrictive nature of travel destinations permitted by European countries, which form the main source markets for tourist visitors to Uganda.
