#Uganda’s #Kisoro runway to remain closed yet longer

(Posted 12th March 2024)

As has been predicted by aviation circles following the first NOTAM extenstion that the Kisoro runway would be closed until the 10th of March this year, has yet another NOTAM been issued by the Uganda Civil Aviation Authority.

Starting Monday 11th March 2024 at 12:00 PM till Monday 15th April 2024 at 06:00 PM

Kisoro Runway 18/36 Closed.

REF: AIP Uganda AD 2-HUKI-1-3 (30 MAR 17)

No reasons were given by the UCAA for the continued closure of the airfield, which has left tourism operators in the area deeply upset as their upmarket clientele can no longer fly into Kisoro but have to take day long drives from Kampala to reach on of Uganda’s top tourism attractions, tracking of mountain gorillas.

One of the airlines previously offering scheduled flights – besides charters – into Kisoro is Aerolink, a company closely associated with Kenya’s Air Kenya and Tanzania’s Regional Air.

Airlink has confirmed their intention to restore schedule flights from Entebbe to Kisoro just as soon as the continued closure of the Kisoro runway has been ended and flight operations can resume.
