Police & its sister security agencies have today rescued Ms.Kimberley Sue, an American tourist together with her guide who were kidnapped while on an evening game drive at Queen Elizabeth National park. The duo are in good health & in the safe hands of the joint security team.
A full statement from government officials is expected to be issued in due course and will then be rebroadcast here, as and when available and as and when ongoing travels allow.
Uganda’s Tourism Minister Prof. Ephraim Kamuntu also meanwhile spoke about the issue earlier in the day to confirm that the tourist and her driver are safe. He said: ‘We were under pressure. But this anxiety now, we can say, we can put it to rest. The people are safe. They are secure. They are unharmed‘.
Meanwhile has Uganda’s tourism industry breathed a collective sigh of relief over the positive outcome and applauded the country’s security services for their immediate full scale response and their success.
From initial, though sketchy information received by regular sources have the two been found inside the Congo DR, where Ugandan security forces followed in hot pursuit, as they crossed the international border with but one objective in mind, to rescue the two hostages.
The kidnappers reportedly escaped when becoming aware of the Ugandan forces closing in on them but are being pursued further so as to face the full force of the law.
