The phenomenal success of the rhino breeding programme which was launched almost two decades ago, even though the Ziwa Sanctuary was only established much later when the funds for the venture had been raised, was once again underscored when yet another rhino baby, number 17 was born.

It is a male and born to mother Kori and dad Moja.
This is her fifth calf and she is one of the original 6 rhinos brought to the sanctuary to launch the breeding programme.

There are now 22 rhino on the sanctuary taking into consideration Justice which died from injuries sustained in a turf fight with an older male and, despite immediate veterinary attention, later succumbed to the wounds sustained. Justice was also Kori’s calf.
Said Angie Genade, the long serving CEO of the Rhino Fund and of the Ziwa Rhino Sanctuary with considerable pride: ‘We are expecting a further 4 births during 2018‘ which will bring the overall number to 26.
