#UNWTO meeting in Seychelles postponed

#COVID19 PUTS A STOP TO UNWTO MEETING IN THE SEYCHELLES

(Posted Friday the 13th of March 2020 – from the Observatory by Geolodges, Rubirizi District, Uganda)

Information was received overnight that the UNWTO Regional Commission for Africa meeting, which was due to take place in the Seychelles, has – for the time being – been halted in the interest of public health and safety.
It is a sad day when the main promoters of tourism and travel find themselves at the receiving end of the current #COVID19 outbreak, which has led to the cancellation of flight services across the world, cancellation of vacations already booked, cancellations of sporting events, and the cancellation of meetings and conferences not just across the world but in East Africa too, where todate no known case has been registered.

Said UNWTO in a statement received overnight:

The Secretariat of the World Tourism Organization (UNWTO), presents its compliments to the Members of the UNWTO Commission for Africa, the Affiliate Members of the region as well as other recipients and would like to update them on the hosting of the Sixty-third UNWTO Commission for Africa and Forum on African Youth for Sustainable Tourism Solutions which was to be held in Victoria, Mahé, Republic of Seychelles from 25th to 27th March 2020.

Following the recent declaration by the World Health Organization (WHO) on COVID-19 being a pandemic and in accordance with the UNWTO Statutes and in consultation with the CAF Chairman, the 63r d CAF and Forum on African Youth for Sustainable Tourism Solutions is being postponed to a later date. Members will be informed of new dates in due course.

The Secretariat of the World Tourism Organization avails itself of this opportunity to renew to the Members of the UNWTO Commission for Africa, the affiliate members of the region and other recipients, the assurances of its highest consideration.

Once a new date has been set will ATCNews inform readers promptly.
