Vanilla Islands Comoros and Seychelles sign new BASA

COMOROS SIGNS NEW AIR SERVICE AGREEMENT WITH SEYCHELLES

(Posted 11th July 2014)

The two Vanilla Island members Comoros and Seychelles have earlier in the week signed a new BASA, aka Bilateral Air Services Agreement, which will pave the way for flights between the two island nations.

The signing ceremony took place at the Kempinski Seychelles Resort where an Indian Ocean Commission meeting of transport and tourism ministers took place, preparing, among other issues, for a common position when the inaugural meeting between ICAO and UNWTO will take place in the Seychelles in October this year.

The signing was carried out by the Comoros Principal Secretary for External Relations Mr. Inzouddine Hodhoaer and the CEO of the Seychelles Civil Aviation Authority Mr. Gilbert Faure.

While the Comoros do not have a national airline at this moment in time, the new agreement will allow Seychelles’ registered airlines to fly there without any restrictions as to frequencies, aircraft size or carriers. The deal reportedly also includes 5th freedom rights for flights via the Comoros main airport of Moroni to destinations on the African mainland.

Connections between the two islands are presently possible by Kenya Airways via Nairobi and by Air Austral via Reunion’s main international airport in St. Denis. Watch this space for breaking and regular aviation news from across the Indian Ocean islands.
