Following the signing of an agreement with the Costa Cruise company, and the announcement of very strong growth in Indian Ocean cruises, the Vanilla Islands [Seychelles, Madagascar, Réunion, Mauritius, Comoros, Mayotte and Maldives] are pursuing further development of this industry.
At present, the association is promoting the destinations of the Indian Ocean region at the Seatrade Cruise Global trade show in Fort Lauderdale.
In its more than thirty years of existence, the trade show has become the world leader in cruise-related activities. It is attended by more than 11.000 global professionals, and in particular by the decision-makers of the largest companies.
"Our diary is already full of appointments. New companies are currently being canvassed, and have shown a definite interest in expanding their activities in our region", said Pascal Viroleau, CEO of the Vanilla Islands organization, at the opening of the trade show.
For Bruno Lebreux of Concorde in Mauritius, "Our presence, and the presence of private operators, shows that we believe very strongly in the growth of the cruise industry, which has already generated significant economic benefits for each of the islands."
Amrita Craig, of the Mauritius Tourism Promotion Authority, stressed that the conference series at the event contributed to the professionalization and to knowledge of this evolving sector.
