ROUND 3 – VANILLA ISLAND PRO AM GOLF 2018
It was in a musical ambience and atmosphere that the players boarded the shuttle service for the third round of the Vanilla Islands Pro Am Golf Tournament 2018. This day marked the end of the first Mauritian stage of the tour, held at the Mont Choisy Golf Club.
The participants, who were impressed by the high quality of both the course and the service, were beginning to show the first signs of fatigue. Even after three days of competition, however, the teams still gave everything they had and were able to brave Mauritius’s tropical climate, with the weather ranging from hot sunshine to light seasonal rain. |
INTERMEDIATE PRIZE-GIVING
To bring the first stage to an end, and before the switch to a different golf course, an awards evening was held at the LUX* Grand Gaube resort. The players were delighted with the numerous prizes on offer from our partners Callaway, Gigaset and Mont Choisy Golf Club. To win any of the various bags, golf clubs, mobile phones and baseball caps up for grabs, competitors needed to have put in a good performance.
In gross score terms, the team made up of Laurent MARCICKI, François BRIVAL and Antoine MACQUET, and led by pro-golfer Olivier AUBERT, achieved second place at this intermediate ranking stage, with a score of 129 points. It was the team consisting of Patrice BARQUEZ, Richard PELISSERO, Jean-Loup DUVAIL and Benjamin LEGUEU that finished in first place, with 137 points.
In net score terms, third place went to our friends from the Île de Ré, led by pro-golfer Stanislas CATURLA, with a score of 169 points. The team made up of pro-golfer Antoine SCHWARTZ and his fellow team-mates Max CUBIT, Eric DE BIASIO and Pascal BARIOT finished in second position with 172 points.
Additionally, and with their polo shirts featuring the dodo, the emblem of Mauritius, they also won the prize for the course’s best team uniform. Finally, and finishing in first place with a score of 180 points, came the competition’s only team from Réunion, made up of pro Jean-Philippe WELTER, Daniel CONDINA, Alexis BOUTRY and Stéphane PAIRAULT.
And as is now the tradition at the Vanilla Islands Pro Am, the team finishing last in the rankings also received a prize. They’ll no doubt be pulling out all the stops to improve their position over the second stage.
There are now three days of the tournament remaining, with these due to take place at the Tamarina and Avalon golf clubs. Let’s hope the rest of the competition has plenty of surprises in store for us. |
SIGHTSEEING DAY
At the end of these three days there was a break in the tournament, giving the players a chance to play at being tourists. With deep-sea fishing, island exploration, nautical and golfing activities, or simply relaxing and taking things easy on the beach all to choose from, our enthusiastic and dedicated golfers were able to recharge their batteries in readiness to face the challenge of the second stage.
