TOURISM CITY OF VICTORIA FALLS NOW ENJOYS ‘HERD IMMUNITY‘
(Posted 29th April 2021)
The Zimbabwean Government has announced that Victoria Falls is the first city in Southern Africa to achieve herd immunity as 77 % of the adult population is fully vaccinated.
Victoria Falls is already characterized by wide-open spaces and exclusive experiences, and in light of the response to vaccinations, it now qualifies as one of the safest tourist resorts to visit in the immediate post-Covid19 period.
Zimbabwe’s first tourism city has made history following an overwhelming response by the local community to come together and tackle the pandemic.
Dr Fungai Mvula, the Acting District Medical Officer for Matabeleland North, says, “We would like to thank the Victoria Falls community for taking responsibility to not only protect themselves but also our wider community and for doing their part in the process of bringing back the tourism on which so many livelihoods depend.”
Zimbabwe is a country of many natural attractions and national parks but also of prehistoric and historical sites such as Great Zimbabwe and it is also home to resilient, strong and proactive tourism communities across the country.
Victoria Falls is the gateway to Africa’s Eden and ever since the expansion of the international airport to accommodate wide body aircraft has the city come closer to many international travelers.
Many airlines now fly directly into Victoria Falls for convenience and ease of connectivity from where tourists can start their safaris after seeing one of the world’s greatest natural spectacles, especially when the Zambezi river is in full flow.
