ICONIC CLOCK TOWER IN THE HEART OF VICTORIA NOW BACK IN WORKING ORDER
(Posted 13th November 2019)
Victoria, the capital city of the Seychelles, is often referred to as the world’s smallest capital and equally often as the Capital of the Kreol World.
In the center of Victoria stands a landmark literally every visitor to the islands comes to see, during a stroll through the city centre or passing it enroute to or from their hotels. It is a miniature replica of the clock tower in London and was installed in 1903 to commemorate the passing two years earlier of Queen Victoria.
For the past weeks was the clock tower out of service, following a fault which had developed in the mechanism but following a public outcry was this swiftly remedied.
The clock tower is back in working order after two technicians flew in from the UK to carry out repairs and when the 250th anniversary year starts, commemorating the first ever settlement of the islands, will visitors to the Seychelles once again see the correct time displayed and the chimes ring out at full hours.
