Wakanow, Nigeria’s and West Africa’s leading online travel agency and booking operator, is set to spread its wings to Eastern Africa again, following their departure during the COVID19 pandemic and subsequent company reorganisation.
Tanzania, Kenya, Uganda and Rwanda will be first on the map, largely benefitting from inbound traffic Wakanow intends to generate via intra Africa travel – in this case from West Africa to East Africa.
A team from Wakanow was visiting Eastern Africa in recent days and Josephine Rurangwa, Wakanow’s East Africa Business Development Manager and better known to her friends as ‘Fifi’, explained to ATCNews what transformation Wakanow underwent: ‘The Wakanow Brand Identity has undergone a significant transformation from Wakanow.com – Africa’s No1. Travel booking Portal to “Wakanow…Let’s Go”
The new logo, a combination of the very vibrant sea blue and orange colors, give the brand a more mature, aspirational and fun outlook that resonates very soundly with our global intentions and the very dynamic nature of our clients.
The new logo is also a personification of the upward and forward movement that is a key part of the our brand mantra, with a simplicity that makes it easily recognizable among other leading world brands. Our change is not just in our looks alone, but a change that runs deep into the heart of the business with a promise of greater excellence in service delivery.
These are exciting times for us at Wakanow.‘

ATCNews, as has been the case in the past, will once again partner with Wakanow to bring added visibility to the brand and promote the market entry into Eastern Africa, helping to pave the way for commercial success. Rwanda is already fully accessible for Africans through their ground breaking Visa policy while Kenya’s move towards Visa free travel for African has come under sustained critique for their ‘substitute’ travel permit requirement and the related cost.
Uganda and Tanzania are yet to move towards a Visa free regime for African citizens although the online applications for Uganda Visa has in the recent past seen significant improvements in the handling and processing of Visa in particular for African citizens.
Uganda especially will no doubt see an influx of Nigerian and West African christians ahead of the annual Martyrs Day celebrations which are held on the 03rd of June every year at the Namugongo Catholic Shrine. Year round pilgrimages however are planned to allow for less crowded visits to the shrines in Namugongo and Munyonyo – where a second although lesser known shrine has been located and is also open for visits.
The Ugandan Catholic martyrs were declared saints on the 18th of October 1964 by Pope Paul at the Vatican. There were also several Anglican christians amongst those murdered between 1885 and 1887 by then Kabaka (King of Buganda) Mwanga and while the Anglican Church has no provisions for saints are they also among those remembered every year.
