SOUTH COAST RESIDENTS ASSOCIATION CALLS FOR STAKEHOLDER MEETING TO DISCUSS EIA PROPOSALS FOR DREDGING THE AWARD WINNING DIANI BEACHES
(Posted 12th May 2015)
The South Coast Residents Association is organizing a workshop on Wednesday 27TH May 2015 at 10.00 a.m., at Kaskazi Beach Hotel to discuss the EIA on the sand dredger/harvester along the South Coast. The meeting is open for members and also for interested residents, business owners and others keen to learn about the plans to take five million tons of sand from the award winning Diani beaches and in the process destroy some of the most fancied reefs for diving along the entire Eastern African seaboard.
The organization’s executive is according to information received still trying to obtain a soft copy of the EIA so that they can share it with their members and those intending to attend the meeting to prepare in detail.. The purpose of this meeting will be to fully brief attendees on this EIA and to receive input for a detailed response by the South Coast Residents Association to NEMA.
Said Luciana Parazzi Basile, Chair Lady of the SCRA: ‘This is an important meeting because our beautiful south coast beaches and ocean are at stake. As you saw from our previous email on this subject, our County Governor, H.E. Salim Mvurya, and the County Government is fully supporting us and is opposed to this project taking place in the South Coast. Please keep this day free (morning only) and spread the word as we would like as many people as possible to attend and show their support’.
Watch this space to stay updated with the latest information as the meeting date comes closer and expect the link to the EIA be published here too, allowing readers to send in their own observations, comments, recommendations and critique to NEMA directly or via SCRA.
