GRAYLING COURTS KENYA’S PRIVATE SECTOR WITH ROYALTY FREE IMAGE SERIES

(Posted 04th August 2015)

Grayling, the government appointed PR agency tasked with turning Kenya’s image abroad around, has had what can only be described as a rocky start. In fact tempers among key private sector stakeholder flared up again during CNN’s recent frontal assault on Kenya’s global reputation, inspite of having a deal lined up to promote Kenya, a perfect example of first destroying a destination and then, against a huge financial outlay, help to rebuild it. Grayling, while apparently busy behind the scenes, was in the opinion of a number of regular sources simply not visible enough and their reaction, when it came, almost perceived as an afterthought, rightly or wrongly.

With sections of the public sector also not convinced about the performance of Grayling so far does the agency have an uphill task to meet not only their targets but the huge expectations the Kenyan tourism industry has vis a vis a turnaround.

Grayling has now launched a series of royalty free images which tourism stakeholders can use for promotional purposes and in addition proposed that their photographer Stuart Price, against logistical facilitation of accommodation, meals and flights / entrance fees, come to Kenya and take photographs of lodges, tented camps, resorts and hotels.

This offer will probably go some way to appease private sector critics, more so as British tour operators last weekend announced their planned return to Kenya from next month, as it is clearly easier to promote a destination in the upswing than when it is stuck in a downward spiral of falling arrivals.
