At around 06h00 yesterday morning I was traveling to Livingstone along the buffalo fence. I was privileged to see three Buffalo bulls grazing near the game fence. I got out of the car and took some close ups of them. They were unconcerned and carried on eating. Suddenly they picked up their heads looking at something to their right side, and Victor said “Wild dogs”!!!! On the right, running outside and next to the game fence were two Wild Dogs running in the same direction as us!!!! They were trotting along happily, obviously trying to get into the buffalo camp!! We travelled next to them for about 1,5 to 2 kms! Then they stopped before the last cell tower and laid down. We turned around, but couldn’t find them. I haven’t seen a wild dog for around 20 years!! It was simply fantastic to see them on that road!!! I really hope that the authorities take absolute care of them for their and our children’s sake!!!

Impressive elephant herd in the Zambian component of the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area www.kavangozambezi.org Good to see higher numbers of calves in this herd than we have seen in past years, no doubt due to the great conservation efforts that are ongoing in this area. Thank you to Ashley at Mutemwa Lodge for sharing the footage.

Look who arrived in the Simalaha Community Conservancy today!

Peace Parks started translocating wildlife to Simalaha in 2013, and since then more than 1000 animals have been rewilded there. Income from nature-based economies is a critical component of the Conservancy. This includes protecting the newly restocked wildlife populations for tourism purposes, as well as potentially the commercial management of wildlife as overseen by the Simalaha Community Conservancy Trust.
The Conservancy comprises 180 000 ha of communal land and is fundamental to re-establishing wildlife populations and their migration routes in the Kavango Zambezi Transfrontier Conservation Area – the biggest terrestrial cross-border conservation system in the world.

This multi-million dollar 923m bridge connects #Zambia ?? and #Botswana ?? and will vastly improve trade and tourism. Previously, trucks in transit between the two countries had to wait a minimum of 3 days (usually much, much longer) to cross by ferry.
