ZAMBIAN GOVERNMENT TO FUND NEW JOINT VENTURE AIRLINE WITH 30 MILLION US DOLLARS

Information was received from Lusaka that Zambia Airways will undergo a revival as part of a new joint venture with Ethiopian Airlines some time in 2018 according to a cabinet decision taken earlier this week.
While preparations towards a flight launch may take some time, after the projected investment by government of some 30 million US Dollars has been made, has a provisional date start up date nevertheless been set, being on or prior to the 2018 national day celebrations.
Sources close to Ethiopian Airlines have suggested, that like with Malawian Airlines, which is a joint venture between ET and the Malawian government, the new airline in Zambia could operate Bombardier Q400NextGen aircraft on domestic and regional routes but also fly Boeing B737NG aircraft. Ethiopian Airlines is the largest Q400 operator in Africa and also ows the largest fleet of B737NG’s on the continent.
In West Africa does Ethiopian Airlines partner with ASKY while a joint venture in the Democratic Republic of Congo has yet to mature.
