ZAMBIA’S TOURISM AGENCY CONFIRMS THAT ZATEX MUST MAKE WAY FOR NEW #INDABA DATES
(Posted 22nd February 2019)
The troubles for Indaba in Durban, forced to change dates due to the South African government’s decision to hold elections precisely when Africa’s largest tourism trade show was initially to take place, is now causing ripples way beyond just this show.
Zambia’s main annual tourism trade show was due to be held in Lusaka between the 02nd and 04th of May, but given that the INDABA organizers decided to reschedule their own trade show over the same dates, was Zambia compelled to change their dates too to avoid large numbers of hosted buyers and exhibitors from missing out on the fair in Lusaka.
The new dates for ZATEX have been set for May 09th to 11th, but once again causing confirmed attendees the headaches of having to rebook flights – often at the expense of huge penalties – and amend their hotel bookings, if at all they are able to participate should other commitments stand in the way of the new dates.
While sources close to INDABA continue to try and make good weather over the changes, they do know that their own government has thrown a very big spanner in the works of not just INDABA but now affecting other tourism trade shows too, leaving officials in Durban with the proverbial egg all over their faces, already read from the embarassment caused by their own date changes.
