The newly upgraded, expanded and modernized Victoria Falls International Airport will be opened on the 18th of November by Zimbabwe’s President Robert Mugabe it was learned yesterday.
Three years of work saw the runway lengthened and new passenger terminals for domestic and international flights completed, giving the old airport a new lease of life with modern architecture of glass, steel and marble.
The new facility is expected to be a game changer for Zimbabwe’s tourism industry as international flights not just from the region but from other continents can now land at the airport. Nearby Victoria Falls, one of Africa’s top tourism attractions is complemented by easily accessible national parks, giving tourist visitors a range of exceptional experiences when visiting Zimbabwe.
A UniVisa for visits to both Zimbabwe and Zambia will reportedly shortly be relaunched to entice tourists to visit both countries.
Domestic flights between Harare and Victoria Falls are operated by national carrier Air Zimbabwe and Fastjet, the latter also connecting Vic Falls twice a week to Johannesburg.
Delegates coming to Victoria Falls later in the month for the Annual General Assembly of AFRAA, the African Airline Association, will be able to enjoy the new facilities close up and personal.
