What did june hold for rhinos?
In good news, a new location has been announced for establishing a much-needed back-up population for the Javan rhino, all surviving animals currently live in one fragile ecosystem on the island of Java, vulnerable to natural disaster, human encroachment, and disease. Find out more about the most mysterious rhino species here.

We’re also celebrating success in Viet Nam, where more than 30 businesses pledged zero tolerance to wildlife crime as part of their corporate social responsibility policies at a training workshop held by our partner, TRAFFIC.

Less promising events in South Africa have seen the long-awaited trial of alleged poaching kingpins Hugo Ras and Dawie Groenewald delayed yet again due to the country’s recent lift on its ban on domestic horn trade.

And, in light of a dehorned rhino recently killed by a hippo in a confrontation at a waterhole, the debate about dehorning is back on the radar. Get the lowdown on the factors that need to be considered in our thorny issue special on the subject.
