BOTSWANA GOVERNMENT KEEN TO SEE PRIVATISATION OF NATIONAL AIRLINE THROUGH

After past failures to privatise of get a strategic investor in Air Botswana – Air Mauritius, Comair and SA Airlink all did not satisfy the Botswana government with their proposals – has the latest attempt gained greater interest.
The national airline of Botswana can according to information received get a strategic core investor, become part of a joint venture, run on a concession basis or as a franchise.
17 expressions of interest have been received so far, giving Botswana wider options compared to past such attempts.
Air Botswana currently serves four domestic destinations, Gabarone, Francistown, Maun and Kasane and serve regional routes to Johannesburg and Cape Town.
The airline, after incurring losses, has been subject to cost and route cuts in the recent past.
