A red carpet for visitors – well a red glow from an active volcano at least

CORSAIR OFFERS ‘VOLCANO SPECIALS’ TO MAKE ISLAND VISITS MORE AFFORDABLE

(Posted 19th May 2015)

In view of the current outbreak of the Piton de la Fournaise, Reunion’s active volcano, has Corsair yesterday launched special fares to the island for just Euros 696, return and all taxes included, a deal made possible in cooperation with IRT, the island’s tourism board known as Ile de la Reunion Tourisme.

The deal is for the route from Paris to St. Denis’s Roland Garros International Airport but passengers in need to reach Paris first from other cities are equally getting a special deal for just 60 Euro return train fare on the high speed TGV.

While the prefecture on Reunion has closed direct access to the crater and directed the helicopter companies to stay clear of overflights, can heli tours still be done from a safe distance and can the slopes of the volcano still be hiked to a certain level. For thrill seekers there seem to be no limits set to breath in some fresh sulphur fumes, waving down the mountain and the fiery show, even seen from a safe distance, is something otherwise not experienced during a holiday. The sky over the volcano is at night also illuminated, giving a view from much of the island to signal how active the fire spitting natural dragon is.
