Africa’s aviation market recorded strong capacity levels in August 2026, with several major airports registering their highest monthly airline seat capacity of the year according to AeroTrail tracking.
Cairo International Airport led the continent with a staggering 3.78 million airline seats, its highest monthly capacity so far in 2026. Johannesburg OR Tambo International Airport followed with 2.28 million seats, narrowly ahead of Addis Ababa Bole (ADD/HAAB) International Airport, which recorded 2.27 million. Casablanca Mohammed V International Airport ranked fourth with 1.58 million seats, while Algiers International Airport Houari Boumediene completed the top five with 1.31 million seats.
The figures highlight the continued concentration of airline capacity around Africa’s major international gateways, while also providing insight into the scale and structure of connectivity across the continent.
