Cairo International Airport (CAI) handled 3,133,767 passengers in August 2026, representing a 9% year-on-year increase from the 2,869,522 passengers recorded in August 2025 — an absolute gain of 264,245 travellers.
Based on 3,783,143 airline seats tracked by AeroTrail, the airport recorded an estimated 82.8% load factor. Flight activity grew even faster, with 22,053 aircraft movements, an 11% increase from 19,895 movements a year earlier, adding 2,158 movements year-on-year. This continues Cairo’s growth trajectory in 2026, following a 9% increase in passenger traffic during Q1, when the airport handled more than 8 million passengers.
Market Structure
Intercontinental operations dominated CAI’s capacity, accounting for 85.3% of total airline seats, while #intra-African services contributed 8.48% and domestic operations 6.23%.
At the country-market level, Saudi_Arabia was by far the largest international market, accounting for 37.8% of capacity, equivalent to 1,428,856 seats. The UAE followed, with domestic operations ranking third.
At the airport-pair level, Jeddah (JED) was CAI’s busiest destination, with 559,491 seats, followed by Riyadh (RUH) with 416,094 and Dubai (DXB) with 192,173 seats.
Airline & Fleet Capacity
EGYPTAIR remained the dominant carrier at CAI, providing approximately 1,334,102 seats, or 35.3% of total airport capacity. SAUDI AIRLINES followed with 340,044 seats, while Air Cairo contributed 261,486 seats.
By aircraft manufacturer, Airbus Aircraft airframes accounted for 66.5% of available seats, maintaining a substantial lead over Boeing, which contributed 31%.
