Lagos Murtala Muhammed International Airport (LOS), Nigeria‘s busiest aviation gateway, recorded an estimated 4,373,754 scheduled airline seats during the first half of 2026, according to AeroTrail analysis. January was the busiest month, with approximately 815,419 scheduled seats, while June recorded the lowest monthly capacity of the period.
As Africa‘s most populous country, Nigeria’s domestic market continued to dominate operations at Lagos. Domestic services accounted for 51% of total scheduled seat capacity, followed by intercontinental operations (26%) and intra-African services (23%), highlighting the airport’s dual role as both the country’s primary domestic hub and an important international gateway.
The Lagos (LOS)–Abuja (ABV) corridor was the airport’s busiest route, recording an estimated 888,070 scheduled seats during H1 2026. It ranked as Africa’s fifth busiest airline route overall and the continent’s third busiest domestic route. Services to Port Harcourt (PHC) ranked second with 343,859 seats, while Owerri (QOW) completed the top three with approximately 212,673 seats.
Among airlines, Air Peace Limited remained the dominant carrier at Lagos, operating approximately 807,047 seats, equivalent to 18% of the airport’s total capacity. United Nigeria Airlines and CALLY AIR ranked second and third, respectively, underscoring the strength of Nigeria’s domestic airline market.
