Our latest Africa aviation trails are out, capturing another eventful week across the continent’s aviation and air transport landscape.
From new routes and fleet additions to regulatory milestones, infrastructure investments and strategic partnerships, here are some of the key trails we tracked:

1. Route & Airline Connectivity Trails
Three new routes and one relaunch were tracked across AFRICA.
Airlink launched a new twice-weekly nonstop Cape Town (CPT)–Mauritius (MRU) service, while LIBYA’s Sebha International Airport witnessed the launch of two new direct international services by Berniq Airways and Al Buraq. Meanwhile, Jambojet relaunched its Nairobi–Entebbe service, restoring an important regional connection between KENYA and UGANDA.

2. Fleet Trails
Fleet developments also remained active across the continent.
Royal Air Maroc took delivery of a new Boeing 737-8 MAX, bringing its fleet to 70 aircraft, while ZAMBIA’s stabo air inducted the country’s first Boeing 737-400F freighter. Meanwhile, Ethiopian Airlines signed an agreement with Boeing to acquire 10 freighter aircraft, reinforcing the carrier’s long-term ambitions in the air cargo market.

3. Regulatory Trails
NIGERIA’s Gusau International Airport (GIA) in Zamfara State successfully completed the International Civil Aviation Organization (ICAO) 17-step quality assurance and approval process for its instrument flight procedures, an important milestone ahead of the commencement of scheduled commercial operations.

4. Partnerships & Agreements
The Guyana Civil Aviation Authority (GCAA) and Uganda Civil Aviation Authority (UCAA) signed a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) to strengthen bilateral cooperation, technical collaboration and regulatory capacity in civil aviation.

5. Finance & Infrastructure Trails
SENEGAL inaugurated the 19-kilometre, double-track electrified Diamniadio–Blaise Diagne International Airport (AIBD) extension of the Train Express Régional (TER), establishing a direct rail connection between the country’s principal international gateway, Diamniadio and Dakar. In NIGERIA, the North-East Governors’ Forum (NEGF) raised ?10.8 billion (approximately US$7.1 million) in counterpart funding to support the establishment of a regional air shuttle, marking a significant step towards the proposed North East Airline.
