AeroTrail

AeroTrail Limited is a premier aviation consultancy, market research and data analytics solution provider for the African air transport and logistics market. The company was incepted in early 2021 by a group of passionate aviation enthusiasts, as a result of the lack of availability of reliable data pertaining to the African aviation market.

With the purpose of acquiring, analysing, modelling, simulating, storing and providing domestic, regional and African continental aviation market data, the company was officially registered as a limited company in January of 2023 with its headquarters in Nairobi, Kenya. To this end, AeroTrail will partner with Ministries of Transport (MoT), civil aviation regulators, airport operators and airline companies.

Through these partnerships and collaborations, the company intends to collect and obtain statistical data that will be used for descriptive, predictive and prescriptive analytics that offers clients actionable solutions, fuel inclusiveness and enhance the sustainability of air transport operations across the African continent.

Additionally, the company offers airline market research, business strategy planning & management and human capital solutions for aviation regulators, airline companies, airport operators, ground handlers, freight companies, pharma logistics, training organizations and maintenance, repair & operations (MRO) organizations, amongst others.

Below is a link to a dashboard with analysis of scheduled #airline operations at the main aviation ?? airports of the seven sovereign member states of the East African Community (#eac). It aims to provide valuable insights into the level of air #inter-connectivity on various scales, including inter-continental, intra-#africa (outside the EAC), regional, and domestic operations.

#Prelude: The analysis is based on data obtained from seven airports within the EAC region as ?:

1. Burundi – Bujumbura Int’l #BJM/HBBA
2. DRC – N’djili Int’l #FIH/FZAA
3. Kenya – Jomo Kenyatta Int’l #NBO/HKJK
4. Rwanda – Kigali Int’l #KGL/HRYR
5. South Sudan – Juba Int’l #JUB/HJJJ
6. Tanzania – Julius Nyerere Int’l #DAR/HTDA
7. Uganda – Entebbe Int’l #EBB/HUEN

Key Insights ??:

??Available Seat Kilometers (ASK): The cumulative weekly #ASK across these airports amounts to approximately 1.25 billion, translating into an estimated weekly airline #revenue of approximately 206 million USD.

???? Leading Aviation Hub: Kenya Airports Authority run Jomo Kenyatta Int’l Airport emerges as the preeminent aviation hub among the seven airports, representing 44.4% of the total airline seats and offering #connectivity to well over 55 direct airline routes.

??Top Routes by ASK: The top five routes, based on ASK, either originate from or are destined for Kenya’s #HKJK airport. Notably, the NBO-LHR route, operated by Kenya Airways & British Airways, is the leading route per ASK.

???Leading Routes by Number of Airline Seats: The Kenyan #domestic route of NBO-MBA records approximately 25,525 weekly airline seats, while the #Tanzanian domestic route of DAR-ZNZ boasts approximately 17,585 weekly airline
seats.

??Airline Ticket Pricing: Examination of airline ticket pricing per kilometer reveals that both distance and available airline seats significantly impact prices. Short #regional and domestic routes, such as NBO-BJM at $2.58 per KM and KGL-BJM at $1.95 per KM, tend to be more costly. Conversely, inter-continental routes offer the most cost-effective fares per kilometer. For instance, the 15-hour flight from Nairobi to #NewYork #jfkairport costs about $0.108 per kilometer.

Summary ?:

Domestic and regional routes, particularly those operated by smaller piston engine and turbo props #aircraft, exhibit higher ticket costs per kilometer. This underscores the significant influence of #economies of scale on ticket pricing.
