It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you all to AFRAA’s 8th Aviation Stakeholders Convention (ASC). In preparing for this conference, care has been taken to ensure that all delegates derive the most benefits and satisfaction. We therefore hope that you will enjoy every bit of your time here.
Indeed, the overwhelming interest in this conference which is now in its eighth year indicates that the aviation sector in Africa abounds in opportunities. With a population of over 1.2 billion, Africa accounts for 17% of the world’s population, but contributes less than 3% of the global air transport market. Economically, Africa is among the fastest growing continents, with a young and rapidly urbanizing population.
A successful and viable African aviation industry is achievable, but this requires rigorous efforts as well as close coordination and collaboration by all stakeholders ranging from Governments, regulatory authorities, airports, air navigation service providers, suppliers of the wide range of aviation products and services and the customers. Together, we can ensure an integrated, interconnected Africa that is competitive within itself and globally. |
