#AFRAA News Updates

Welcome Message from the Secretary General
It is a great pleasure for me to welcome you all to AFRAA’s 8th Aviation Stakeholders Convention (ASC). In preparing for this conference, care has been taken to ensure that all delegates derive the most benefits and satisfaction. We therefore hope that you will enjoy every bit of your time here.

Indeed, the overwhelming interest in this conference which is now in its eighth year indicates that the aviation sector in Africa abounds in opportunities. With a population of over 1.2 billion, Africa accounts for 17% of the world’s population, but contributes less than 3% of the global air transport market. Economically, Africa is among the fastest growing continents, with a young and rapidly urbanizing population.

A successful and viable African aviation industry is achievable, but this requires rigorous efforts as well as close coordination and collaboration by all stakeholders ranging from Governments, regulatory authorities, airports, air navigation service providers, suppliers of the wide range of aviation products and services and the customers. Together, we can ensure an integrated, interconnected Africa that is competitive within itself and globally.

Welcome Message from Air Mauritius
Dear ATCNews Readers,

On behalf of Air Mauritius, it is my privilege to join Secretary General, Abdérahmane Berthé in welcoming you to the 8th Aviation Stakeholders’ Convention (ASC) of the African Airline Association (AFRAA). I wish to thank AFRAA for having given us the opportunity to host this event in Mauritius.

Africa is a continent of boundless opportunities. With a population of 1.2 billion, double digit growth rates in many countries and a fast expanding middle class, our continent has become the new promised land for the development of air travel.

Industry partners in Africa will have to take these emerging opportunities and overcome challenges together.

We are pleased to support AFRAA in hosting this Stakeholders’ Convention which provides a much needed platform of exchange by bringing together key players from the aviation supply chain. We hope that delegates will make the most of this valuable opportunity to discuss, share views, remain apprised of latest industry developments while we continue to build and strengthen partnerships.
