Air Arabia eyes new destinations in China

AIR ARABIA SET TO LAUNCH FLIGHTS TO CHINA

(Posted 20th January 2015)

Air Arabia, the Sharjah based low cost carrier serving Nairobi with daily flights, has yesterday announced that they will begin flying to China in a major new widening of their network.

Their first Chinese destination, more are probably going to follow soon, will be Urumqi in Western China, capital of the Xingjian region. The inaugural flight will take off from Sharjah on 10th of February and Air Arabia will initially operate three flights a week, using their Airbus A320.

Air Arabia already offers extensive choices of destinations across the Indian subcontinent and into Eastern Europe and the launch of flights into China is seen as the next phase of expanding and making Sharjah a major low cost hub. From Sharjah does the airline offer with connections to Nairobi and Khartoum, the only two African destinations served outside Egypt.

Traffic from and to Nairobi is largely made up by Kenyans working in the UAE as expatriates and seeking the best possible airfares to get to their workplace in the UAE. The arrival of flydubai in Entebbe, Kigali, Bujumbura, Kilimanjaro, Dar es Salaam and Zanzibar at the end of last year has however brought low fares to and from the UAE into the entire East African region, starting as low as 399 US Dollar return, all taxes included.

Travel agents booking clients on Air Arabia out of Nairobi are said to be keenly watching what other destinations in China Air Arabia will eventually launch, in particular to cities along the coastline where the use of an LCC can reduce fares to such destinations.
