NEW NATIONAL AIRLINE SET TO TAKE TO THE SKIES IN THE HORN OF AFRICA

Fourteen years after the demise of the namesake airline is the new Air Djibouti about to take to the skies after earlier expectations of a launch in late 2015.
This follows the delivery of a leased Boeing B737-400, provided by Cardiff Aviation, which has also secured EASA certification for the new national airline.
Djibouti has of late made headlines in the international aviation media over plans to build two new airports and the launch of a new flag carrier clearly is part of taking the country to a new level and establishing Djibouti as a new logistics hub in the Horn of Africa, close to the Arabian peninsula and not too far from the Gulf.
It is understood that additional aircraft will join the fleet of Air Djibouti before the end of the year, among them a Boeing B767 for long haul flights to the UK and at least two BAE 146’s which are due for delivery over the next two months.
The new airline will reportedly begin flight operations with destinations in the region around the Horn of Africa, into Eastern Africa and perhaps as far as the Gulf before then launching long haul flights to London after the mid December delivery of the B767.
