The agreement was signed at the Farnborough International Airshow 2026, in the United Kingdom, yesterday, Tuesday 21 July 2026. Attending the signing ceremony was a delegation led by Ms Veronique Laporte, Minister for Transport, Ports and Civil Aviation, the parent ministry responsible for oversight of the national airline, Captain Francois Jackson, Chairman of the Air Seychelles’ Board, Chief Executive Officer, Mr Sandy Benoiton,; and senior management from Air Seychelles.
The Airbus A321XLR is Airbus’ latest-generation extended-range aircraft, designed to deliver improved fuel efficiency, lower operating costs, and enhanced passenger comfort. The placement of these aircraft will enable Air Seychelles to develop new routes that were previously beyond the airline’s operational reach, which will create opportunities to strengthen direct connectivity with high-potential tourism and business markets. The aircraft’s extended range capability will also support greater network diversification and provide the airline with increased flexibility in responding to evolving market demand.
Commenting on the agreement, Sandy Benoiton, Chief Executive Officer of Air Seychelles, said:
“This agreement with SMBC Aviation Capital marks a significant milestone in Air Seychelles’ long-haul growth strategy and in the future connectivity of Seychelles. The addition of two Airbus A321XLR aircraft will provide us with the range and flexibility required to expand our network beyond our traditional regional footprint and connect Seychelles more directly with key international source markets.”
The lease is expected to play an important role in strengthening Seychelles’ position as a globally connected island destination by improving access to international markets and supporting the country’s tourism-driven economy.
Sandy Benoiton added, “These aircraft will allow us to offer our passengers a newer and more modern travel experience, with enhanced comfort, improved efficiency, and a product aligned with international standards. As the national airline, this agreement reflects our commitment to responsible growth, stronger global connectivity, and long-term value creation for the people and economy of Seychelles.”
The agreement comes as Air Seychelles prepares to celebrate its 50th anniversary in 2027, marking five decades of connecting Seychelles with regional and international markets and forms part of its long-term vision beyond this milestone, positioning the flag carrier for its next chapter of growth
