Tourist visitor numbers from India are up sharply since Air Seychelles began to initially fly three times a week to India’s commercial capital, using an Airbus A320 offering a two class configuration of both Business and Economy class.

As part of the additional flights will the weekly flight between Dar es Salaam and Mahe be shifted from the current Wednesday departure to Thursday, starting on the 28th of January, to make onward connections easier for passengers using Air Seychelles to their final destination with transit on Mahe.

The airline’s chairman, who is also the Minister for Foreign Affairs and Transport, Mr. Joel Morgan, commented positively on the development when he said: ‘The introduction of additional services to destinations in the region means further expanding Seychelles as a regional hub. Since the launch of the nonstop services to Mumbai and Mauritius, Air Seychelles has continued to enhance its travel offering and build on its operation. Today it is well positioned for further growth in the region which will additionally strengthen the position of Seychelles as a destination and a centre for trade and commerce in the Indian Ocean’.

Mr. Roy Kinnear, CEO of Air Seychelles, then added his voice when he said: ‘We are delighted to meet the strong travel demand to and from Mumbai and Mauritius markets by introducing the fifth scheduled service to both destinations. These services, operated by Air Seychelles Airbus A320 aircraft, will provide an additional 544 return seats per week. Both, Mauritius and India remain very important regional markets for Air Seychelles and we are committed to developing these routes and carrying a greater number of leisure travellers across our growing network.

We appreciate the support of the Seychellois, Mauritian and Indian Civil Aviation Authorities and their assistance in making these flights possible, which will further strengthen the tourism and trade ties between our countries’.

Besides Mauritius does Air Seychelles also connect several times a week to Antananarivo / Madagascar while Reunion, another member of the Vanilla Island group, is connected with the Seychelles by home airline Air Austral.

This expansion of destinations and flight frequencies over the past one year has been a major factor in the airline earlier this month welcoming their 500.000th passenger on board their international services. More flights, provided that the political situation on the archipelago’s main islands does not escalate, will no doubt be launched in 2016, among them an already confirmed long haul service between Mahe and Beijing also at the end of January.
