AMERICAN CHAMBER OF COMMERCE CHOSES KAMPALA SHERATON FOR EXHIBITION
(Posted 23rd September 2014)
It comes as little surprise that the American Chamber of Commerce in Uganda chose the Kampala Sheraton Hotel for their upcoming business exhibition, where according to information received some 45 American companies will show off their products and services.
Held under the theme ‘Buy America Expo 2014’ will the exhibition held in the hotels main Rwenzori Ballroom, showcase the range of products American firms manufacture either back home or else through subsidiaries and owned / part owned companies in Uganda.
Open this coming Thursday from 09.00 hrs till 17.00 hrs will the opening of the exhibition be graced by the presence of the American Ambassador H.E. Scott DeLisi while the keynote address will be given by local business guru Patrick Bitature, who is also the chairman of the board of the Uganda Investment Authority.
Such companies like AON and Fedex will be joined by KFC, Uganda Breweries, a Diageo subsidiary and the Sheraton itself, which of course is one of the global hospitality giants based in the United States as a brand of Starwood Hotels.
America and Uganda have strong trade relations, spurred by the African Growth and Opportunities Act, in short AGOA, which gives a range of Ugandan products access to the US market free of duties, which many American tourists come to the country to track gorillas and other primates and enjoy the pristine wilderness areas found across Uganda’s 10 national parks. Security cooperation between the two governments is also described as ‘tight’ and has withstood the test of trying periods when local legislation prompted widespread condemnation in the US, including ultimately empty threats to downsize cooperation across the board.
