Only a day after an ICCN pilot crashed with his Cessna 150 in Eastern Congo did another deadly air accident rock the East African conservation fraternity.

Capt. Tim Mwangi, a KWS pilot, who had just completed his first solo flight on a gyrocopter, crashed for yet to be established reasons in Birika, Kajiado county, near the Orly Airfield, and died on impact. The gyrocopter was completely destroyed.

Registered as 5Y-KWV was the aircraft only recently acquired by the Kenya Wildlife Service and was to be used for aerial surveys and monitoring.

Kenya Civil Aviation Authority has launched an air accident investigation to establish the cause of the crash.

Condolences are expressed to the family, colleagues and friends of the late Capt. Tim Mwangi.
