Another tragedy befalls the Vohra family of Sarova fame

ANOTHER CAR ACCIDENT CLAIMS LIVES OF FOUR MORE VOHRA FAMILY MEMBERS

(Posted 21st October 2018)

Sarova Hotels, one of Kenya’s leading hotel groups, has lost yet more members of the founder family Vohra to a car accident.
This afternoon did M. S. Vohra, his wife and another family member perish in another gruesome car accident on the Nairobi – Mombasa road. M. S. Vohra, at the time of his passing was Chairman of the Board of Directors of Sarova Hotels.
The accident series started in 2006 when then hotel group CEO Sandy Vohra passed in a car accident in Addis Ababa and continued to the shock of the entire tourism fraternity in Kenya last year, when Sandy’s brother and successor as CEO ‘Pinky‘ Jaideep Vohra was involved in a fatal car accident, notably also on the Nairobi – Mombasa road. ‘Pinky’s‘ son is reportedly admitted in hospital, having also been in the car, but is said to be in a very critical condition.
Today’s accident has further decimated the family’s presence in the hotel company’s management, a venture they formed in the late 1970’s with John Kariuki with the first acquisition of the Ambassador Hotel, followed by the New Stanley, the Whitesands in Mombasa and the Panafric Hotel, alongside which expansion into Nakuru, Shaba and the Masai Mara followed.
At one stage did the company also operate several hotels in London.

The Vohra family and especially the late ‘Pinky‘ were among the first friends I made in Kenya, a friendship which lasted to this day and it is with a very heavy heart that I extend my condolences and deepest sympathy to the Vohra family and the entire Sarova Hotels management and staff on this sad day.
