WORLD TRAVEL MARKET AFRICA HOSTS RESPONSIBLE TOURISM AWARDS
(Posted 18th April 2018)
South African travel blogger Meruschka Govender, aka @MzansiGirl last evening moderated the African Responsible Tourism Awards 2018 ceremony at the Cape Town International Convention Centre as part of this year’s WTM Africa.
Overall winner of the night was Wilderness Safaris which operates across 8 African countries including Kenya, Rwanda, Seychelles but also South Africa, Botswana, Namibia, Zambia and Zimbabwe.
The judges said that they were impressed with the success of Wilderness Safaris in driving down the consumption of bottled water and the consequent savings in plastic waste.
Meanwhile did North Island, Seychelles, win their category for Marine Species and Habitat Conservation, a glowing endorsement for the conservation work done by one of the world’s best – and most expensive – luxury island resorts where royalty, showbiz stars and captains of industry go for their honeymoons or getaway vacations far from the prying eyes of the paparazzi.
Congratulations to all the winners, runner ups and finalists for the extraordinary efforts to meet the criteria for Responsible Tourism.
In closing were the 7 categories for the 2019 awards announced such as
1) Best Resource Management – with subcategories of Waste and Water
2) Best Reasonable Event
3) Best for Habitat and/or species conservation
4) Best for Community Benefits
