The #Bombardier and #EthiopianAirlines sponsored welcome evening turned out to be a great launch platform for the delegates of one of Africa’s most important aviation conferences with proceedings proper launching in a few hours in the conference centre of the Tsogo Sun Cape Sun Hotel in the heart of Cape Town.

Cape Town’s Executive Mayor Patricia de Ville, alongside #WESGRO – short for the Western Cape’s tourism, trade and investment promotion agency – CEO Tim Harris welcomed the delegates at the Taj Reserve, formerly home to one of South Africa’s oldest banks and the short walk to the location from the Cape Sun Hotel was led by The Cape Town Minstrels, which music made the procession look like part of the New Orleans Mardi Gras festival, itself of course replicated in the annual Cape Town Mardi Gras event.

A good number of African airline CEO’s and many other leading aviation experts were present at the early evening get together where after the official opening old friendships were renewed and new one’s made as the room instantly went into networking mode, making best use of the time available before the more serious part of the business commences at 9 am in the morning.
Also on site is Matthew Weihs, CEO of Bench Events, the company under which AviaDev falls, promoting as previously mentioned the AHIF, short for the Africa Hotel Investment Forum, which will take place in early October in Nairobi / Kenya again.
Updates from the conference proceedings will be posted via Twitter on a regular basis as well as with daily articles to share what potentially new routes the conference may incubate this year and what other findings, conclusions and suggestions are being made to improve connectivity within and across Africa.
