Big meals for small change – that is the Kampala food scene for you

IT IS ALL ABOUT FOOD IN KAMPALA OVER THE NEXT 10 DAYS

(Posted 03rd June 2015)

The Sheraton Kampala Hotel last night hosted the launch party for the first ever Kampala Restaurant Week, which is now underway. The Pearl Guide and the Sheraton had teamed up to invite media representatives, known foodies and social media catalysts to witness the start of what promises to be an extraordinary ten days of eating out. Fourty restaurants are participating in the food festival and food lovers, locals and visitors from abroad alike, can eat out with a choice of two dishes under the Restaurant Week scheme, though a full menu is of course available too for patrons at any of those venues. A standard dish will go for a mere 15.000 Uganda Shillings, equivalent to about 5 US Dollars and a signature dish will go for just 25.000 Uganda Shillings, equivalent to just over 8 US Dollars per person.

Participating are the following hotels and restaurants across Kampala:

Sheraton Kampala Hotel‘s Seven Seas, The Lawns, Yujo Japanese Restaurant, The Bistro, Munyonyo Commonwealth Resort‘s Nyanja Restaurant, Mantra Kampala, Khana Khazana restaurant, Mediterraneo Restaurant & Villa Kololo, La Patisserie, Biryani House, Cityville Lounge, Camel Club, The Sound Cup, Nimaro Coffee, Dancing Cup, The Emin Pasha Hotel, Piato Restaurant, LiquidSilk Uganda, Citybluehotels‘s Cafe Mamba, Java Coffee and Tea at The Village Mall – Bugolobi, Meza Gastronomy,Dormans Uganda, Cafe Pap, Cafe Mebanas, Coffee at Last – Official, Yasigi Beer Garden,Tamarai, Big Mike’s Cocktail bar, Prunes, Caffè Roma, Kati Kati Restaurant, Fairway Hotel & Spa‘s Asian Fusion, Speke Hotel‘s Khyber Pass, Kabira Country Club, Dolphin Suites, Cayenne Restaurant and Lounge, The Great Indian Dhaba, Atmosphere Lounge (former Ranchers Seafood & Steak House) , Saffron Authentic Indian Restaurant and Legends Sports Bar & Restaurant.

From today until the 13th of June to these restaurants and hotels open their doors for customers to try out some of their amazing cuisines at prices less than what they would otherwise charge. The idea, promoted by Uganda’s Pearl Guide, was warmly received by the hospitality industry in Kampala as it will allow to showcase quality food and service to a clientele which will probably, due to the lower cost, be much more diverse than the ‘normal’ dining out crowd. Again, to highlight, all 40 participating restaurants will offer a casual menu at UShs 15,000 and a special signature menu of their choice at UShs 25,000, drinks and other dishes selected from the menus going extra over and above these rates. What better way to take family or friends out for a meal, or as visitors from abroad be able to sample some of Kampala’s finest restaurants and explore Uganda’s latest culinary delights.
