Big party for Air Seychelles in Dar es Salaam

Air Seychelles celebrates flights to Dar es Salaam and instant rise in passenger numbers

Air Seychelles, the national airline of the Republic of Seychelles, celebrated its new service between Seychelles and Dar es Salaam with an elegant cocktail reception held at the 5star Dar es Salaam Serena Hotel on Monday evening, 16th of February.

The function brought together over 150 guests from the travel trade, private sector, business community and government, who were treated to the warm creole hospitality of Air Seychelles with live music and canapés made using ingredients from Seychelles.

Guests were entertained by renowned Seychellois musician Philip Toussaint, who played reggae and séga hits, while Maasai dancers from Tanzania also provided lively entertainment.

The event was held to celebrate the December 02nd 2014 launch of a twice-per-week direct service from Seychelles to the capital of Tanzania, which is operated by a new Airbus A320 aircraft.

It was also an opportunity for key stakeholders to mingle, with guests including the Seychelles Consul General to Tanzania, Ms. Maryvonne Pool, the Seychelles Principal Secretary for Finance and Trade, Mr. Patrick Payet and local representatives of Air Seychelles, Mssrs Hassan Hirji and Gokul Nath.

Addressing the guests, Manoj Papa, Air Seychelles’ Chief Executive Officer, said: “While only two short months have passed since we launched a direct service to Tanzania, our two countries have already grown closer during that time, both in terms of trade and bilateral ties.

I would like to thank the Seychelles Consul to Tanzania, Maryvonne Pool, as well as the local government authorities for their support in launching our direct service to Dar es Salaam.

This route promotes more business and leisure traffic to Tanzania, a destination renowned for its game parks and our first network point in East Africa. At the same time, travellers from Tanzania are now a short journey away from our Mahé hub, where they have convenient access to our expanding international network.”
